Who we are
JVS Scholars is a women led nonprofit founded by Julia Sandoval, a first-generation Latina immigrant from East Los Angeles. Our organization is proudly run by four women, Julia Sandoval, Elizabeth Brady, Jaylene Salcido, and Jennifer Ibarra, each of whom has faced unique challenges and turned those experiences into purpose. Together, we share a deep understanding of what it means to grow up in underprivileged communities, to work hard for opportunities, and to want more for the next generation.
We created JVS Scholars to bridge the gap between ambition and access for students who, like us, grew up dreaming of something bigger. Our work centers on empowerment through action. We provide school supply giveaways, holiday and toy drives, and scholarship opportunities to help students start each year prepared and supported. We also offer mentorship programs that connect youth with role models who guide them academically, professionally, and personally. Beyond education, we extend our reach through legal and community resource connections, ensuring families can access the support and information they need to thrive.
At JVS Scholars, every initiative is rooted in empathy, resilience, and lived experience. Guided by our values of Justice, Vision, and Strength, we are building a movement that uplifts students, supports families, and strengthens communities. Our mission is simple but powerful, to make sure every student, no matter where they come from, has the opportunity, confidence, and resources to create a brighter future.
